Brake and Clutch Fluid

The last things that most drivers think about are brake and clutch fluids. Many don't even know they're there.

But from the extremes of a freezing sub-zero morning to the searing temperatures that a braking system can reach on long downhill descents, or the stresses of multiple gear changes, we all expect our brakes and clutches to respond when we push with the pedal.

The FERODO product line includes a range of brake and clutch fluids which guarantees the highest quality and peak performance from hydraulic systems, and there are products to suit every application.

Ferodo high quality brake and clutch fluids enable the service requirements of most car, van and motorcycles to be satisfied with just three grades.

FERODO DOT 4- SYNTHETIC

A superior general purpose hydraulic fluid suitable for all motor vehicles and motorcycles made in the UK, Europe, Japan and the USA where a DOT 4 fluid is recommended.
  • High 230°C boiling point
  • Lower absorption rate than DOT 3 fluids
  • Protects metal from corrosion
  • Helps prevent system leaks

FERODO DOT 5.1 HIGH PERFORMANCE

FERODO DOT 5.1 brake and clutch fluid is particularly suitable for vehicles equipped with ABS braking systems because of the short cycle time required.

Also a natural choice for high performance and racing cars where the exceptionally high boiling point gives maximum resistance to vapour lock. It avoids the spongy brake pedal, air solubility and water incompatibility associated with silicone based DOT 5 fluids.

FERODO DOT 5.1 brake and clutch fluid is suitable for motor vehicles and motorcycles made in the UK, Europe, Japan and the USA, that have been designed to use a synthetic fluid. It must not be used in some Citroen models or other vehicles which require a mineral based fluid such as FERODO LHM.

  • Extremely high 260°C boiling point, which is retained better than DOT 4
  • Ideal for ABS
  • Very low - 55°C freezing point

FERODO LHM - MINERAL BASED

A high quality product specifically formulated for Citroen and other vehicles which require a mineral oil based fluid for braking, suspension and central hydraulic systems.

  • High 240°C boiling point
  • Non water absorbing
  • Outstanding corrosion resistance
  • Ideal for centrally pumped hydraulic system
  • Wide temperature range

Adjuster Systems

RA (VAG)

RA (VAG)The RA adjuster system is mainly used in ATE Brake System – including Audi, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen.

RAI LUCAS: AUTOMATIC INCREMENTAL ADJUSTMENT

RAI LUCAS: AUTOMATIC INCREMENTAL ADJUSTMENTThe RAI LUCAS adjuster system is used on the homonymous brake system, including BMW, Citroen, Ford, Opel, Peugeot, Renault and Volvo cars. This system allows continuous micro-adjustment optimising the shoe/drum clearance and includes a “thermo-clip”, to deal with thermal expansion caused in overheating.

RAD: AUTOMATIC RATCHET ADJUSTMENT

RAD: AUTOMATIC RATCHET ADJUSTMENTThe RAD adjuster system is used both on Bendix and AP Lockheed Brake System, on cars such as Fiat, Citroen, Ford, Peugeot and Renault. Wear is compensated by a variation of the anchor point of the brake hanger.

RAI BENDIX: AUTOMATIC INCREMENTAL ADJUSTMENT

RAD: AUTOMATIC RATCHET ADJUSTMENTThe RAI Bendix adjuster system is used on Bendix Brake systems, typically on Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot and Renault . It is similar to the RAI LUCAS system, designed for continuous micro-adjustment and the inclusion of the “thermo-clip”. The RAI Bendix system includes a gear driven by a sophisticated leverage device fitted directly to the brake hanger.
